Created in the summer of 2019, pullets from Pen #5 and Cherokee, a Rooster from Pen # 1, make up pen # 9. The number one breeding goal for this Swedish Flower Hen pen is to increase size of offspring. Some of the pullets are producing a dark tan egg and others a paler (almost white) egg.
Cherokee
Fairly white in color as a chick and as of the end of 2019 I am seeing many blue chicks, I believe that he carries the double dilute blue gene that makes him splash in color.
He experienced frost bite over the winter of 2018/2019. Fortunately, I took pictures of him prior to loosing almost all of his comb. Weighing in at around 7 lbs. he is one of the larger roosters here. He is a son of a rooster I call Larry that was hatched out of Leigh Edwards eggs by another who then sold him to me.
The Hens
Hens in Pen # 9 all hatched out of Pen # 5. Of the 5 black based hens, a couple are sno leopard. The 6th hen is blue based. Check out the pictures. Additional individual pictures will be added soon.
As of September 2019 the pullets are laying eggs. Eggs can be shipped or set here if you would like chicks hatched from this pen. This pen has been hard at work killing off sod for future garden space here at CG Heartbeats Farm.
