Swedish Flower Hen

The first Swedish Flower Hen birds were first imported into the United States in 2010.  These beautiful birds known for their white tipped feathers are primarily an egg laying bird. There are three base colors: blue base, black base, and splash.

Colors

A genetic mutation created a variation of the red that is a sub color which may appear in any of the bases. Here in the USA, it has become known as the Snow Leopard color.

Here is a short video of approximately 8 week old chicks. Colors represented include blue base, black base, and snow leopard.  Splash color is not represented in this group.

CG Heartbeats Farm as of January 2019 is offering 5 different breeding pens, 2 breeding pairs, and a trio breeding group to select eggs or chicks from.  More details are available on the individual pens, see below. (links with descriptions and pictures). Please email to ask any specific questions.

Breeding Goals for Swedish Flower Hens

There is no current SOP or Standard of Perfection for the Swedish Flower Hen as a breed.  As a land race bird, this breed does have some standards set by the gene bank in Sweden.  Here in the United States breeding standards tend to vary among breeders.  For this reason I would like to share a bit about what qualities I am striving for as a part of the CG Heartbeats Farm breeding program.

I find disease resistance an important part of a homestead bird. I do not routinely vaccinate chicks for this reason, but rather focus on providing a clean environment, while supporting the birds immune system.  To me, breeding for increased broodiness among the hens promotes a sustainable breed with out the need for human intervention allowing for a true homesteading and sustainable experience. Large flowers(white feather tips), a larger rather then smaller bird, correct toes and no sprigs make up the four next factors I am working to produce.
